FAQs in Tuckahoe, NY

How often should I visit the dentist for check-ups and cleanings?

Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are typically recommended every six months. However, we may recommend more frequent visits based on your oral health needs.

What do I do about tooth sensitivity?

There are many different things that can cause sensitivity, including enamel erosion, gum recession, or cavities. Our team can evaluate the cause of your sensitivity and recommend appropriate treatment options. For example, you may suggest desensitizing toothpaste or special dental procedures.

What are the benefits of dental inlays and onlays?

Unlike a metal filling, inlays and onlays are custom-made in a dental laboratory and bonded to the surface of the damaged tooth.

Because the repair is placed on your tooth rather than inside it, your tooth is not weakened. And because the restoration is made of porcelain, your tooth will not be susceptible to the shifts and contractions that metal fillings can cause. Dental inlays and onlays also make a much stronger repair and are able to withstand up to 75% more chewing force – while looking completely natural!

Porcelain dental inlays and onlays can be used to repair:

  • Cavities
  • Decay
  • Cracks
  • Chips

They require less tooth preparation and drilling than conventional fillings.

Do inlays and onlays contain mercury?

porcelain inlays and onlays do not contain toxic mercury the way old amalgam fillings do. We recommend that if you do have metal fillings, you have them checked for stability. Why? The FDA recently responded to pressure from health advocacy groups and admitted that dental amalgams containing Mercury can have toxic effects on developing infants, and children and pregnant women should avoid them.

What is the best way to whiten my teeth?

There are several whitening options available, including over-the-counter whitening toothpaste and strips. Of course, you can choose professional whitening in our office. Your dentist can help you choose the best whitening option based on your goals and dental health.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Dental X-rays emit low levels of radiation and are considered safe for most patients. Your dentist will take necessary precautions, such as using lead aprons and digital X-ray technology, to minimize radiation exposure.

What are the signs of oral cancer?

Oral cancer can present as persistent mouth sores, red or white patches in the mouth, difficulty chewing or swallowing, or changes in the fit of dentures. Regular dental exams include screening for oral cancer to detect any abnormalities early.
